spin cycle presents

Spin Cycle Presents is a Los Angeles-based event promotion company founded by Keith Erickson in 2009. Keith created Spin Cycle out of a need for like-minded folks to perform, network, socialize and grow into the vibrant community it is today.

The Spin Cycle @ TRiP series is a monthly eclectic musical showcase featuring popular bands and up and coming live acts looking for exposure, adding a much-desired Northeast improvisational flavor to the West Side of LA. These shows have quickly built a loyal following and become a central hub for Los Angeles' growing jamband and experimental music community

In addition to this popular music series, Spin Cycle has been involved in other high profile events around the LA area, including everal sold out "Cosmik Playground" superjam concerts (featuring members of Umphrey's McGee, Frank Zappa, String Cheese Incident and Digital Tape Machine), Soulshine Daydream Wellness Festival, Shaky Feelin's seminal Album Release Party at the historic Crest Theatre, Mission 24 (a 24-hour underground music festival), the Shakedown Music Series at the Basement Tavern and the live TV broadcast series Birds of a Feather @ Kulaks Woodshed.

SCP Unplugged @ TRiP feat: Brock Butler, Pete Pidgeon and Gregory Hodges

"SCP Unplugged" is a new series featuring acoustic performances by singer/songwriters and various talented musicians amongst our community.

Jan 20th, 2018 features 3 different musicians, which will play 45 minute sets each on acoustic Guitar/Vocals. It wouldn't be out of the question to expect special guests or for these musicians to pair up and perform acoustic renditions of covers or originals throughout the evening.

Then, starting at roughly 11pm, the Gregory Hodges Band will fire up, thus switching gears entirely into an all out electric guitar shred fest. This extended set will feature the same 3 musicians as they take turns singing leads, trading solos and creating improvisational magic the LA Jam, Blues and Jazz communities won't soon forget!

This promises to be the first of many "SCP Unplugged" nights to come, featuring a rotating cast of highly talented musicians.  (LIKE MTV UNPLUGGED, SCP = SPIN CYCLE PRESENTS).

THIS MONTH FEATURES

Cubensis- Grateful Dead music experience @ Fais Do Do, Venue Change from TRiP

ATTN: Fans planning to attend the Cubensis show at the TRIP in Santa Monica Dec 2. After realizing that about twice as many people wanted to attend, as there is room for, a decision was made by Spin Cycle Presents and Cubensis, to relocate the show to a bigger venue, at Fais Do Do in Los Angeles (same time, same date). It's about 9 miles away. This will inconvenience some people, but allow more people to attend, and tickets will be sold at door ($20, 18+ also welcome for $3 surcharge). All tickets purchased through Spin Cycle for the TRiP show will be honored. Spin Cycle Presents will of course refund those not wishing to make the transition. The party of the year just got better! Full lighting tech, bigger space, great sound, and more fun folks! Not to mention 2 epic sets!

Bomb Squad is a hard-hitting, aggressive, in-your-face funk trio that brings a party to the stage every time they play. Coming together from different cultural backgrounds, each member contributes a unique flavor to the sound of the band. Guitarist Ricky Giordano adds a heavy rock edge to organist Tonga Ross-Ma'u's modern jazz approach. With drummer Tim Newton's gospel and R&B background, he provides a foundation with deep grooves and captivating rhythms. His ability to stretch out and express himself through creative drum solos and collective improvisations with the band, is the most exciting part of Bomb Squad's live performance.

Dj Williams’ Shots Fired — All Fired Up Series: Sept. 26: Motown on Wax (45-RPM Soul)

In a first-of-its-kind, groundbreaking, four-part series, Dj Williams’ Shots Fired has partnered with Northern California based medical cannabis company, The Legion of Bloom, and LA’s exclusive Alchemy Lounge and Social Club, for a weekly residency that pairs four nights of live music with four different cannabis strains. Participants will be given a complimentary “Monarch” vape pen courtesy of The Legion of Bloom, featuring a cannabis oil cartridge that Legion of Bloom cultivators have carefully curated to match the evening's musical theme. Limited edition means limited supply - product will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Dj Williams Shots Fired will perform four differently themed shows on four consecutive Tuesdays beginning on September 19. While guitarist, Dj Williams, will lead a different lineup each week, the Shots Fired collective includes members of Dave Matthews Band, Slightly Stoopid, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Greyboy Allstars, Lyric’s Born, Lenny Kravitz, Dr. John and others.

Dj Williams’ Shots Fired — All Fired Up Series:

Sept. 19: Classic ReGrind (Reimagined “hits” of the 80s and 90s)

Sept. 26: Motown on Wax (45-RPM Soul)

October 3: Dabs for Dilla (Putting the J. in your juke joints)

October 10: OG Shots (Live from Over Here)

These special events will be early-evening affairs with no bar on-site; for those interested in drinking during the event, an on-site concierge service is available — BYOB means bring your own bud and booze. A one-day membership to Alchemy Lounge is included with your show ticket, and attendees must be 21+ to enter.

Dj Williams, founder of Shots Fired and guitarist for Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, has brought these alchemical elements together in an open celebration of California culture, following a harrowing 42-day detainment in another country for possession of a tiny amount of cannabis oil. You can read all about it here: http://hightimes.com/news/well-known-guitarist-deported-from-middle-east-for-a-vape-pen/

Let Dj Williams’ Shots Fired get you ALL FIRED UP.

GoGo Penguin

Sat, September 16, 2017

Doors: 8:00 pm / Show: 9:00 pm   $20

It’s been an astonishing couple of years for Manchester based trio GoGo Penguin (drummer Rob Turner, double bassist Nick Blacka and pianist Chris Illingworth). Their trademark mash-up of minimalist piano themes, deeply propulsive bass lines and electronica-inspired drums has seen them shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and fuelled their exhilarating live shows from Manchester to Montreal and Paris to London. They’ve written and performed a new score for Godfrey Reggio’s cult film Koyaanisqatsi and collaborated with noted choreographer Lynn Page for a Gilles Peterson-curated night at the Barbican. And in the midst of all this they’ve signed a multi-album deal with Blue Note Records, the most famous jazz label on earth. Their new album is called Man Made Object and it’s the sound of a band confidently pursuing their own path. “The title is partly inspired by my fascination with ideas of robotics, transhumanism and human augmentation,” says pianist Illingworth. “We’re recreating electronic music on acoustic instruments. It’s like a man-made object that has become humanised and it seemed like a good album title, one that also means something different to each of us, and hopefully to each listener.”

Indeed, although they're predominately an acoustic piano trio, GoGo Penguin’s music draws from many areas of contemporary electronic music, one where you can hear arcade game bleeps, glitchy breakbeats, hypnotic Aphex-style melodies, grinding bass lines and a rumbling low-end. It has been described as “acoustic electronica”, a term which perfectly sums up their modus operandi. “Many of the songs on this album started out as electronic compositions that I made on sequencing software like Logic or Ableton,” says drummer Turner. “I’ll then play it to the band and we’ll find ways of replicating it acoustically.” And it is that ability to synthesis the seemingly disparate influences of electronica, jazz and classical music into their own unique musical DNA that gives GoGo Penguin such an instantly recognisable and compelling sound. One that is set to reach an even wider audience with the release of Man Made Object on February 5 2016.

Heavy funk, driving percussion, energetic horns, somewhere between Brazilian carnaval and Mardi Gras on board the mothership, this is Delta Nove. World funk for your earhole.

Delta Nove’s sound borrows from cultures around the globe, including but not limited to: American funk and rock, Caribbean calypso and reggae, and Brazilian samba drumming. This unique blend of drums, guitars, horns, and electronic colors calls to mind the grooves of Parliament Funkadelic, the horns of Earth Wind and Fire, the diversity of Manu Chao, and the psychedelic improvisation of the Grateful Dead. Delta Nove creates a fresh experience each time; Set lists never repeat, and shows often include surprise guest appearances. This has contributed winning “Best Live Act” for two consecutive years at the Orange County Music Awards and being listed as a “Top Ten Band to See” by Jambase. Additionally, Delta Nove has been on countless national tours and festivals, performing with the likes of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Poncho Sanchez, Burning Spear, Ozomatli, Dr. John, The Funky Meters, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, String Cheese Incident, and more.

The Temporaries have been compared to classic rock legends such as the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and more. They mix together original songs with deep psychedelic  jams. Spin Cycle Presents is excited to welcome this young up and coming band to it's community.
